FO: Christmas Dragon

I finished the baby gift for my coworker on Saturday night. I'm not overly satisfied with how much stuffing you can see through the stitches in the head but overall, I think he turned out alright.

I had a lot of festive props to pose him with at work! Have a Merry Christmas everyone!

Yarn Review Monday 32: Vijay Fibers Serenade and Grandioso

What is YRM: I honestly believe there are good things and bad things about every type of yarn, no matter how much you save or how much you break the bank.

This is for the lay-knitter, not professionals. This is for people like me who might not necessarily be fiber experts despite being a crocheter or knitter for a long time, but need an honest opinion about yarn before they dive into a project with it.

The yarn: Vijay Fibers Serenade (variegated skein) and Grandioso (green skein)

328 yards, 299.9 meters
100 grams, 3.3 oz
  • 100% Eri silk (both skeins)

The Project: Viewfinder Cowl by Tin Can Knits

What I liked: Beautiful stitch definition. The silk is very soft, luxurious and light. It tolerated my frogging like a champ too. It didn't fuzz when I re knit the same few stitches a couple times over (I had dropped a couple stitches and had to down to the problem a couple times. I didn't fix it right the first time). I've worn this cowl quite a bit since I finished it and the yarn isn't pilling. (I'm not sure if that is an issue specific to wool and acrylic though.) This yarn had also endured my small kids pulling on it like it never even happened. My Viewfinder has really beautiful drape.

What I didn't like: There is little to complain about. I was pretty mad when I found a knot in my skein of Serenade (the variegated yarn). If you've read my review of the Vanna's Choice you know how much rage I get when I find knots in my yarn. Especially expensive yarns like this. So when I found one, I was pretty mad. But that is my only complaint.

Affordability:  I bought my skeins on sale for $60 total. They are usually $35-45/skein depending on whether it is solid vs variegated.

Rating: I think this yarn is beautiful, albeit way out of my usual budget. That knot though... I just don't know how normal that is for this yarn. 4/5 stars. I would definitely buy this again when I have the chance.

Half a Dragon

I made half of a dragon this week! All I have left is half a wing, the spine down his back, and his 4 legs.

Tarragon the Gentle Dragon pattern link

There are a handful of my co-workers expecting babies in the next few months. The one this will go to  the one due around Christmas. We don't know if she's having a boy or girl but seriously, who doesn't want a Christmas dragon? I love this pattern. I've made it twice before. It is free from Ravelry.

Doing a lot of listening to the kids reading. Which is surprisingly more exciting than my own selfish reading. Otherwise we are all getting exciting for Christmas and anticipating holidays with our families.

My Viewfinder is complete. I pinned it to my blocking board at 11:30pm last night and I am so happy with it.

The baby was helping me knit on Sunday...

It is light and airy. It is much bigger than I expected and that's great! Enjoy the photos!
