The County Fair

It's that time of the year again! Today is the day I go to our fair grounds and turn in all the projects I'm submitting to the fair.

This year's projects are:
1: the Blue Sand Cardigan I made for my mother in law. It's not perfect, and cotton is a bear to hide the ends of yarn, but it's a project in really proud of. I don't expect to do fantastic on it as far as ribbons are concerned.

2: the monogrammed socks I made for my husband's birthday. Socks aren't my thing, and there is a spot where I had to decrease a few stitches just above the heel on one of the socks, so I'm not expecting anything great with this project either. I'm hoping for some good feedback though.

3: Totoro toy. I love making toys and I think he turned out cute. Not my most impressive toy but certainly a fun project that I think will do well.

4: the cupcake hat that I whipped up for the baby. I think this one will do great, in spite of the messy pom pom.

That's all for now! I'll have an update this weekend after the judging is finished.

Finished Totoro

I finished this little guy today. He turned out a bit funny looking compared to the character in the movie, but at least he's finished.

Since a Totoro is a forest spirit, I had a little fun taking some pictures in our ferns.

Project details:
I used leftover scrap yarns for this, DK and worsted weight.
The gray yarn is 100% wool. White and black yarns are 100% acrylic. Size 2 needles and size 1 needles. This produced a toy that stands approximately 5" high including the ears. I requested the English translation of the pattern from someone on Ravelry, which they happily sent the PDF file within an hour of me PM-ing my email address.

Link to original pattern here. The original is in Danish or Norwegian.

A New Toy (and Lots of Links)

Things are going much better since my Monday sweater update.

So I started a new toy on Tuesday since, well, I signed up to make one for the fair, forgot about it, and then realized the fair starts in ten days. Piece of cake.
... Oops.
It is a character from an anime movie called My Neighbor Totoro. My kids love that movie. It's super cute.

I'm half done with the body already though. It's a nice quick knit because the pattern had you use whatever yarn and gauge you want. I'm knitting this on size 2 needles with DK weight yarn so there is no room for stuffing to peek through.

As for my sweater, it's coming along rather nicely.

This is a back view showing the sleeve on the right.
I've actually been pleasure reading too recently, since the baby only seems happy lately when laying directly on my chest. I picked up A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens again and I'm still enjoying it.

Rip and Re-Knit

Since the last time I posted about frogging a decent portion of this sweater, I have since progressed, realized I got the pattern reversed...
So I ripped that section out and fixed it. At least I thought I did:

But I spent Sunday afternoon with a little pot of tea, a slice of pie, (napping children!) and a got to work figuring out where I went wrong.

Now that the ribbing design is back in order in that part of the sweater, it's off in a different section and I discovered, to my dismay, that I have an extra 7 stitches somewhere. So now the trick is figuring out where to get rid of the extra stitches and how, without messing up the ribbing again.

I'll provide an update for Wednesday's Yarn Along link-up for how things went fixing it!
